Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics property of the same name. It is directed an written by James Gunn.

Primarily, this adventure explores the heritage of Starlord.

GOTGV2 focuses heavily on the relationships of it's cast. Peter longs for his father. His feelings for Gamora are addressed. Yondu's parallels to Rocket are acknowledged. Et cetera, et cetera.

The original cast returns with a few additions such as Ego (portrayed by Kurt Russell) and Mantis (portrayed by Pom Klementieff). Russell, as always, is entertaining to follow. All of his characters contain a certain charisma about them. Mantis was fine; not intolerable, nor compelling. I trust she was added simply to give Drax someone to play off of.

Some returning characters are explored further, such as Yondu (portrayed by Michael Rooker), who I found to be one of the most interesting in this iteration. Others are barely developed any more than before. Rocket is still the snarky hothead. Groot is just the cute sidekick. Ultimately, though, every character was entertaining.

What seems to become more engrained in Marvel Studios' formula is humor. There are those that quip as if it's just how they breath. At this point, this element is expected. But in this film the jokes are everywhere. Sometimes even overpowering serious moments. Drax, dare I say it, was too funny. Notably different from his previous incarnation in the first film. Id prefer that he was a little more serious more often.

The cameos are implemented well. You'll spot the likes of Sylvester Stallone, David Hasselhoff, and ofcourse Stan Lee.

This film is beautiful to behold. In such a CG heavy feature the effects are satisfactory and not disengaging, as in the case of similar films. The practical effects are equally acceptable.

The pacing is perfect. The movie never lulls. The action is discernable, which isnt always the case in action films. Moments intended to be heartfelt are heartfelt. Every scene is enthralling

I enjoy this franchise for the same reason I enjoyed Ant-Man. Tonaly and visually it varies vastly from the other installments in the Marvel cinematic universe.
